Recently, I acquired three new machines in a deal that was too good to pass up. I got a Toshiba Portege Tablet PC, a Toshiba Qosmio that has an Nvidia 6600 in it and is powerful enough to run WoW (World of Warcraft) on it with all video settings maxed out, and this 1.8ghz Mac G5. All for $1500.
I put Mac OSX on a Dell, now I’m putting Linux on a Mac… Maybe I should just switch it around, but naaaah. MacOSX is actually faster on the Dell than on the G5 and Linux seems to run fine on my Mac G5.
I decided to install Fedora Core 5 on the G5. I tried various others Linii (Linux Plural) such as Mac-centric Yellow Dog Linux, but kept getting errors during the Anaconda installer initialization. Did bother messing around with that too much since there are various other Distros that run on PPC. Other tried were Ubuntu, but something kept messing up there too. So I just grabbed FC5 and it installed perfectly, as it has on EVERY other machine I have put it on. Major KUDOS to the FC5 team!
Everything went extremely well, it’s all working and I moved this site and about 10 others over from my faithful old Ubuntu 4.10 box and retired it for the time being.
